John Watson married a Maria Riley in the right place, at the right time. So either: These are two distinct families, and there is a missing marriage between a John Watson & Maria Jealous. The "2 families" option or Maria Riley is Maria Jealous, either because her mother remarried a Jealous, or because she herself remarried (no she was a sponster when married as a riley). The "2 names" option. or John Watson remarried - firstly Maria Riley, then Maria Jealous. The "2 wives" option. Or - simply she was known by 2 names. Maybe her mother remarried so had a different surname, and (as illiterate) she simply answered "what was your mother's name" on the certificates, later birth realising it should be her own birth name. We are missing some vital bit of information here... As John Watson is not a wholly uncommon name, I am erring on the side of "2 wives" or "2 families" options.
