(Child) Baptism*18 April 1830 James Hooper was baptised on 18 April 1830 at Naunton, GLS, James s. Jeremh. & Judith HOOPER, Naunton, Labourer.1
He was the son of Jeremiah HOOPER and Judith RUCK
(Enumerated) Cen-Househ6 June 1841 The 1841 UK Census of Hill Barn Cottage, Naunton, GLS, listed Jeremiah HOOPER and Judith RUCK with Job Hooper, James Hooper and David Hooper.
James Hooper was described as James Hooper, age 10, born in GLS.2
(Groom) MC-Reg*between 1 October 1857 and 31 December 1857  His marriage was registered between 1 October 1857 and 31 December 1857 at R.D. Bromsgrove
Ref: 6c 652.3
(Groom) Marriage*14 November 1857 He married Ann Clayton on 14 November 1857 at The Parish Church, Bromsgrove, WOR,
James Hooper (x), full age, bachelor, nailor of Inkberrow father: Jeremiah Hooper, nailor
= Ann Clayton (x), full age, spinster, servant of Feckenham father: Joseph Pearce, labourer

In church after banns
Wit: David Hooper (x), Eliza Pearce (x), Joseph Rose

(not sure why she is Ann Clayton - maybe she was born before her parents marriage - not "formerly Pearce" as I orignally supposed.)
Witness links David Hooper.4,3,5,6
Research*1858 Research: Ann Clayton stated her father to be Joseph Pearce.
The name stated at the mother's maiden name varied between "Clayton" and "Pearce" for all their known children.

Albert - Pearce
Sarah Ann - Clayton
(big gap)
William Arthur - Pearce
Blanche Elizabeth - Pearce

So though it may look like James married a different wife for his second pair of children (and Ann progressively forgot where she was born) he did not remarry.
Had a Sonbefore 4 July 1859 His son Albert Hooper was born before 4 July 1859 at Bouts, Inkberrow, WOR.7,8
(Head) Cen-Househ7 April 1861 He was head of the household in the 1861 UK Census of Inkberrow Green, Inkberrow, WOR, as James Hooper, head, married, 30, waggoner, born Naunton, GLS. Enumerated with his wife Ann Clayton.9
Researchbetween 1862 and 1972 Research: at Naunton, GLS, There is another family of James = Ann (Ann Yates) also having children but in Naunton (where James was born) at the same time. I did initially have some of their children associated with "my" James and Ann - now known to be wrong. The Clayton/Pearce confusion did not help either.

The Naunton "James Hooper = Ann" family:
Marriage in Naunton 6 Nov 1861, Banns in Bledington (James' home parish) James Hooper age 24 of Bledington, bachelor = Ann Yeates of the parish of Naunton age 21

(this is usefully cited in Ancestry tree of Andrew Clerk - if this is his family hand-me-down I definitely think he should have this James Hooper as his ancestor (not one born in Bromsgrove, brewer) as the father of Sarah Ann Hooper.13
